Last Friday night, our resident Chef Stephen and Sous Chef Atulla, also known as Fu Man Chu, delighted us with a stunning three-course meal for about 45 people. This was a challenge for even the most seasoned chefs, but with careful planning, organization, extra helping hands, and a genuine love for cooking, Stephen orchestrated a wonderful evening.

Stephen shared, "I have been in the program for 9 months and am working toward my Recognition of Prior Learning to become a qualified Chef. Part of this process required me to submit footage of myself completing specific tasks. I have always loved cooking and working in a kitchen. Recipes were among the first things I learned to read as a kid!"

Over at the farm, Stephen prepares over 300 meals each week, in addition to the meals for our Wednesday Soup Kitchen. This is no small feat, but with a passion for food and a heart dedicated to serving God and others, amazing things are possible.

Well done, Stephen, and thank you to everyone who helped make the night a success.

Take a look at some of the pictures from the evening.

If you would like to volunteer and cook a meal for the guys on the farm once a fortnight, or help in any other capacity, we would love to have you!

Please reach out to Shane at 0468 868 354 for more details.

A Personal Reflection on Last Sunday's Sermon -

“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.” Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” So, they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.” John 11:38-41

You play a part in your miracle. This hit hard for us as a family having to deal with tough seasons as a blended family and navigating physical illnesses pleading God for a miracle. I see God as someone who can do anything (even the impossible) then miracles should be what we expect from him but there is a part I need to play? In Pastor Luis Brito’s sermon he talks about the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead which involved them taking the first step and rolling away the tomb stone. It required them to act in the belief that God could do the impossible, that God could bring the dead man to life. It made no sense, after all it had been four days since Lazarus died but they did it and out came Lazarus. Have I played my part for God to move? Have I stepped out in faith by being obedient to whatever he asked me to do in all seasons of my life believing that He will come through for me, my family and all the prayers I have prayed? These are confronting and hard questions. Fear and doubt have been distractions I have given into when instead I should have fought and believed with what His word declares, and the price paid for me so I can live an abundant life. What miracle are you believing God for?

What is your ‘Lazarus’ that you need God to resurrect? Declare who God is, Believe in what only He can do and Live a life of obedience to God. There is a miracle in whatever you are facing today.

Father you are a God of miracles. I believe in your power to heal and restore. Today I bring to you [name whatever it is you are seeking God for] and surrender it to you. I believe you will come through for me. Show me how to live a life of that glorifies and honours you above all else. Amen.

5 Minutes 5 Questions with...........

1-How and when did you come to be a part of Remar Church?

Don: I had the pleasure of meeting Ash, Tam, and Miss Dusty while walking my dog,Toby where they shared with me about the new Remar Church. At that time, I was seeking God's direction for the next chapter of my life after retiring from ministry. Their invitation felt like a timely answer to my prayers, so I decided to visit Remar Church. After a period, I sensed that this was where God was leading me, and I've been a part of the community ever since.

Daile: Don attended Remar for some time before I did. After retiring from ministry in a previous church I wanted to have some time to ‘do church’ without church expectations. I began attending Remar after some personal space, and in response to God prompting me to again join with others in a community of worship.

2-What is something we don't know about you?

Don: One of my big, dark secrets is that I am actually very introverted. Despite my years in ministry and public speaking, I often find connecting with people quite challenging.

Daile: I wish I had some amazing skill or quality to unveil in response to this question but unfortunately, that is not the case! I do think that my fairly conservative appearance might belie much of my personality, which is firmly anchored in my sense of humour.

3-What is your favourite thing to do outside of church/ministry?

Don: Outside of church and ministry, I have a few favorite pastimes. Reading, which allows me to explore new ideas and relax, walking with my dog Toby and I'm also a big fan of footy. I used to love surfing, but as I've gotten older, I find that it's a bit more challenging these days. Nonetheless, the ocean still holds a special place in my heart.

Daile: I am sure it shows some terrible quirk in my personality, but I love reading British murder mysteries and espionage novels for relaxation. I think because (fortunately) they are well removed from reality and I know it.

4-What do you love about our church?

Don: I love that Remar Church is authentic and down-to-earth. The Rehab ministry, in particular, stands out to me as a powerful reflection of the Gospel in action. It's inspiring to see lives being transformed and hope being restored through this ministry. Additionally, the "what you see is what you get" environment resonates with me. It's refreshing to be part of a community where honesty and transparency are valued, and people are encouraged to be their true selves.

Daile: I was just about to write that I like that the church uncomplicated and ‘what you see is what you get’ - and I see that Don has written the same thing! However, it is true, and I have found Remar to be the most practically supportive church to us personally, of any that I have experienced, which matters a lot to me.

5-What has God been talking to you about lately?

Don: Since retiring from ministry, God and I are exploring how to sustain that same level of intimacy and connection in a different context. Our conversations have shifted towards living out a high-quality relationship focused on companionship and the exploration of ideas and thoughts, rather than ministry tasks. It's been a deeply enriching experience, finding new ways to connect and grow together.

Daile: I have been reading through Psalms in The Passion translation. It has been revealing to read familiar passages expressed in different phrases, which have opened up even more understanding of the text. Through David’s words, I have been even more deeply impressed about the goodness of God and his love for us.

6- What advice would you give someone thinking of going into ministry?

Don: If by ministry you mean being Jesus to the world around you, my advice is to find opportunities and pursue each opportunity with all your strength. Make a habit of looking for ways to make a positive impact in people's lives. If by ministry you mean church leadership, then my advice is to seek God earnestly. Fast and pray, and ensure that you have an unwavering certainty that God has called you to this role. Without that firm assurance, the demands and challenges of church leadership can become overwhelming.

Daile: On a day to day ministry basis - I value kindness and thanksgiving as key personal qualities to survive and to encourage others. In a formal positional ministry role- it is important to realise that formal ministry is a life style choice, not a 9 to 5 job - once the initial decision is made it affects every other decision in life. Depending on your response to that, it can be the greatest source of security and blessing or the greatest source of frustration and conflict.
